Thanks for the tour, T'bird and thanks for correctly characterizing it as "adaption" rather than "adoption".

Previous investigators who saw the evidence that those buildings were recycled after they were originally constructed tended to gravitate toward "adoption", but "adoption" refers to usurping something that already exists and using it for the same original purpose. When you adopt the child, it's still for the purpose of parenting to raise a child. When a Catholic church closes down and the Baptists take it over as a church of their own, that's also adoption.

"Adaption", however, refers to usurping something for a different use and purpose than was originally intended. Buying a defunct church and turning it into a pub called "The House Of Grog" is adaption, not adoption.

And so if you buy a used car and still use it as a car to drive around town, etc., that's adoption. But if you buy a used car and use it as customer seating in a boutique cafe, that's adaption.

If the funerary Dynastics really did acquire pre-existing pyramids for their own funerary purposes, I believe that represents adaption, not adoption, because I see no evidence that the early pyramids were ever intended to be used for funerary purposes by their designers and builders. Jon's superb analysis of the details of the Ascending Passage provides us with yet another argument that this pyramid was not designed for a funerary purpose. And so if the Dynastics really did use that pyramid to support their funerary paradigm, as many traditionalists insist they did, then I believe such use represents adaption, not adoption.

There are many examples of what appears to be adaption in the ancient ruins, and not limited to Egypt.
