I've brought this up many times. Ignored. Knowledge is only a burden to those who already know the answers. Why boor ourselves with things like the 1st Dynasty stepped platform pyramid at Saqqara, Mastaba 3038 attributed to King Anedjib c. 2,900BC:

Quoting Emery, Archaic Egypt p142-145:

The big tombs of the middle of the [1st] dynasty show that, apart from the introduction of the stairway, it was a period of considerable architectural change, and experiment, and each monument shows differences in design. Most noteworthy of these is a tomb at Sakkara which is dated to King Enezib [Anedjib] and which may well be his tomb. When first excavated, it appeared to be a conventional form of the period with a typical mastaba superstructure decorated with the recessed panelling [palace facade]. A descending passage led down to the a burial chamber flanked by two subsidiary rooms built at a higher level. But in clearing the interior of the mastaba superstructure in search of the usual magazines, we found a second superstructure concealed within the first. This structure was of entirely different design, being in step pyramid form. Although it is only in this tomb that we have found such a structure preserved, traces of the foundations of what may have been similar buildings have been noted in other large tombs of the period, and we must consider the possibility of it being a common feature of all the royal tombs at Sakkara.

As has been pointed out, the original form was a rectangular earthen tumulus with a brick casing, as in the tomb of Queen Her-nit, which developed into the step pyramid that we find in the tomb of Enezib [mastaba 3038]. Of this evolution there can be little doubt, and the question arises then of what bearing can this strange feature have on the problem of the origin and development of the pyramid structure of later times....

It would appear that the form of the superstructure above the tombs of the kings of Upper Egypt originally consisted of the rectangular tumulus faced with brick which developed into the superstructure of elongated pyramid form. In Lower Egypt, the superstructure above the royal tombs tool the form of a mastaba with its panelled facade. At Sakkara, notably in the case of the tombs of Queen Her-nit and Enezib, the two forms of superstructure are welded together in one building: the tumulus pyramid directly over the burial, and surrounded and covered by the walls of the palace facade mastaba. Comparison of the tombs of Her-nit and Enezib with that of the step pyramid enclosure of king Zoser of the Third Dynasty reveals such similarities of the design and proportion that we may well consider the design of the latter to be a development of the composite royal tomb of the First Dynasty.

(Myself):"What is interesting is that the stepped pyramid was built over an existing structure then built over again with a traditional large palace facade mastaba. The stepped pyramid is large enough as it is, so quite amazing to think they would have covered it over again with something even larger. The question is why do all this supposedly during the reign of one king and did it really happen this way?"

1st Dynasty Mastaba 3504 at Saqqara:

1st Dynasty serekh of Djet:

Reconstruction of his attributed mastaba:

The sudden beginnings of Dynastic Egypt were highly sophisticated displaying a level of knowledge and organization otherwise unknown before the arrival of the Mesopotamian Dynastic Elite. The most sophisticated structures of the period are by far found at Saqqara rather than Abydos, just a hop skip and a jump down the Nile from Giza. In fact, you can see the Giza pyramids from Saqqara. And not only that, every time one floated down the Nile back and forth to and from the Delta to Saqqara, and Memphis the city across the Nile from Saqqara, there they would be in all their glory right there on the edge of the Nile for all to see. If the great pyramids of Dahshur and Giza were already in existence in their true pyramid form before the 1st Dynasty (let alone the 2nd and 3rd Dynasties) as claimed by some-does it really make any sense on any level they could be completely oblivious to them? There is zero evidence anyone had any clue they were there-no carvings, no glyphs, no paintings, no symbols, no replicas-literally nothing. No one ever said a word about this:

And yet the absence of the tools used to build them are evidence to some they were not built in the Dynastic period yet by the same token there is zero evidence of anyone prior, despite living right down the street and floating by them every day, had any clue they were there. And we wonder why the history of what came before the pyramids hold so little interest for some.
