No, he’s not. He got you fair and square. He echoed your phrase.
You don’t know what information other people have about Brewer. Your claim about what “we” have is as questionable as his.
To which I might add, that there is no reason for you to believe which is not reason for everyone to believe.
We do have reason to believe that Brewer would behave and react in certain ways, in the conduct attributed to him by the story and in what we can learn of him historically.
By all means bring forward your “plenty of reason” to doubt which has not already been aired and is not already part of what “we” have to go on.
