The fact remains that if Vyse is to be considered to have behaved fraudently, his need to convince his contemporaries of the authenticity of the cartouche was paramount in the execution of said "forgery."
If Hill acted at Vyse's instigation, common sense dictates that Vyse's instruction about orientation would have been explicit.
Hill didn't travel about Egypt with his eyes shut: he had seen inscriptions for himself and would have observed glyphs everywhere.
However, where is the abundance of evidence that Vyse (or Hill, for this matter) was familiar with hieratic - glyphs normally reserved only for papyri, for it is these which are used in the relieving chamber cartouche, as you know.
I remain completely unconvinced.
