I'm not sure what you expect me to fault him on. If he can't provide copies of the original, ie because BM owns the copyright, then I'd hope he'd give the readers direction on where we can find a copy of such documents. If he doesn't do that, then I would hold that against him for not offering that convenience to the reader.
Otherwise, if he says "trust me, my experts know what they're talking about" I simply take that into advisement until I verify. As you well know by now, I rarely take the investigator's word for anything. That's the entire point of the peer-review process and why a truly scientific report must present enough detail to allow independent verification of any claims made by the author.
And yes, I mistakently blurred the Vyse handwriting discussion into the brush stroke discussion. Sorry 'bout that.
