That's your read, not mine.
Jon's description of those brush strokes can be taken on their own merit regardless of the background that's given him the basis for making those observations. Wouldn't matter if he was a skilled riveter, politician, engineer, artist... The observations, once stated, are irrelevant to the expertise that fostered the insight.
