Thanos, according to the dictionary I consult, he "fabricated" the story. I'm sorry you disagree. The story was made up, artificial, and untrue. He saw a bunch of objects at the bottom of that shaft and then invented an elaborate narrative of conspiracy and deception in an attempt to account for what he saw there. He presented it as fact, his peers received it as fact, and it's still largely embraced as fact. Don't like the word "fabricate"? Then call it whatever you want. Don't like "unadulterated" ('complete and absolute') then pick something else that means strong conviction.
But the simple point is, he applied a low standard of proof. Please don't make me say that again this week. Whether he did it honestly or with a malicious intent is irrelevant to the point. I have no reason to vilify the guy.
