Except the causeway doesn't "go around it."
You can clearly see that the enclosure veers off on the south side, conforming to the causeway.
Unless you propose that the enclosure always was shaped that way, and the causeway just happened to take advantage of that angle to run straight to Khafre's pyramid.
Khafre's temple could have been built at the end of a causeway that was perpendicular to the pyramid face. The Sphinx is not in the way there, so why did the construct the complex thusly, with the sphinx in the middle of everything already?

Except it would require a much greater overhung load on the neck, resulting in a much larger force to be resisted. It's not just a matter of weight. There's torque involved.
I get what you're saying about the lack of OK evidence though. But we don't have a whole lot from the OK so maybe that's the answer to that.

I get what you're saying about the lack of OK evidence though. But we don't have a whole lot from the OK so maybe that's the answer to that.
