Indeed an interesting question?
I was just lurking & reading wondering whether by "apparent" which alternative you meant?
adjective
adjective: apparent
1. clearly visible or understood; obvious.
"for no apparent reason she laughed"
synonyms: evident, plain, obvious, clear, manifest, visible, discernible, perceptible, perceivable, noticeable, detectable, recognizable, observable; More
unmistakable, crystal clear, as clear as crystal, transparent, palpable, patent, distinct, pronounced, marked, striking, conspicuous, overt, blatant, as plain as a pikestaff, staring someone in the face, writ large, written all over someone, as plain as day, beyond (a) doubt, beyond question, self-evident, indisputable;
informal as plain as the nose on one's face, standing/sticking out like a sore thumb, standing/sticking out a mile
"their relief was all too apparent"
antonyms: unclear, obscure
2. seeming real or true, but not necessarily so
"his apparent lack of concern"
synonyms: seeming, ostensible, outward, superficial, surface, supposed, presumed, so-called, alleged, professed, avowed, declared, claimed, purported, pretended, feigned; rare ostensive
"his apparent lack of concern"
Also, whether by "the relative position of pyramid design and construction" did you mean the massive jump attributed to a few squashed intense generations from mastaba's to step (Djoser), based on a few discovered cartouches with names such as three different designs and construction techniques in one apparent (alt meaning option 2)pharaohs lifetime (Sneferu) immediately followed by different techniques assumed to belong to the very next generation with no "apparent" (meaning 1) basis than a guess?
Is this your "assumption" that this is progression clearly "apparent" (alt meaning 1)?
Cheers
