Chicago alone cranks the "mass shooting" numbers. But the Chicago numbers are excluded because "gang violence" is excluded from the way they define mass shootings (e.g. "white" people shooting strangers). In Chicago in certain neighborhoods, people are killed and injured because other people drive by and shoot into the people in the neighborhoods. But these numbers a

Marianne Williamson is, IMO, quite likely to make it to the end game in the primaries. Because: (a) Female (b) No corruption history (c) Not selling socialism (yet), and (d) She pushes a "vision" for America and speaks to the emotions of people. Yes, she is a bit "crazy" - but so is Trump. People relate to her, and like her when she speaks. And just like none of the pol

My dissenting view: July 2019 - USA unemployment is 3.7%. July 2019 - USA job vacancies (open jobs) stand at 7.3 million. July 2019 - USA food stamps participation is at the lowest level since 2009. July 2019 - USA average wages have increased to an all time high of $23.46 USD/Hour. Wall Street does not like it. But Main Street likes it a lot!

I think people will be happier living with the plants. Imagine living surrounded by crops and oxygen generating plants. A fair amount of work will be tending the plants, so people might as well live with them. It will make people much happier I think.

Mars dust is not nearly as bad as moon dust. And we have civilizations today on Earth that know how to deal with dust storms and sand storms. On Mars - well one thing is once there is a good source of water, have rovers go and spray water over the ground. That will result in a surface cover that is much more resistant to winds as the water reacts to the soil. Also since it is really cold, it will

Interesting fiction. A couple points to correct: > This was the most destructive day for Earth in over a hundred million years. Except the dinosaur killer was only 65 million years ago. > Just under 13k years ago the main body of the comet, perhaps 150 miles in diameter Sorry - if it was that large, and that big, nothing would survive bigger than insects. I suggest the body embed

9. Nope
No. It would not be cost effective. Mars has a very weak magnetic field, which means cosmic radiation comes right on in to hit the planet. People will, I think, mostly live underground. Since most people are used to be inside at home and at work for most of the day here on Earth, they should handle it just fine. Trench out a huge ditch, inflate a large long balloon, put anchored arch supports

Thousands of years? You will have to back that up with more than your tsk tsk. But "true" AI is irreverent. We just just need things that are "smart enough" for a given environment. For example: bees collectively can locate flowers, return to the hive, do the dance, communicate the flower location - and bees can gather pollen, fertilize the flowers, return to hive, and make

14. True AI
We are decades away from the Asimov 3 Laws of Robotics level AI. But it will come. As I posted elsewhere, this is why 5G. The level of processing within an robot chassis is insufficient, and will remain insufficient for a long time. But when the "mind" is in a data center communicating with the "body" via 5G, it will be easier. Still the "mind" will remain crude for

Good luck with that. Mark Twain on Congress: "Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." I am, in fact, fine with the impeachment process. I highly recommend that he be impeached on the charges of vulgarity, rudeness, bloviation, and conduct unbecoming. Then let the chips fall where they may. I suspect Trump will enjoy the process. The Senate will not convict, I think. Or if they do...then Pence "Electric Fence" becomes President.

The low wage earners pay no federal income tax. (If they do pay, they get back 100% every year.) They are below the cutoff for federal income tax. They get tax credits/benefits where the federal government cuts them a check every month, and a bigger check once per year. In most states they pay little or no state tax. What they do pay is social security tax (which they get back when they retire),

You ask about government in general. But as regards the USA, as long as we have unfireable entrenched public employees (Federal and State) plus the "free shit" populace - well then the voting populace will continue to vote for more and more federal and state spending. Because the "free shit" populace pays hardly any taxes anyway, so they don't care about that. And the fede
