Hi Ray, It is like the fungi and the trees. Life is interrelated. At dinner tonight we were discussing folks recent DNA results; they disappointed the people who had the tests. One fellow who thought himself 100% German learned he was about 50% german and 50% Eastern European. Surprise!

QuoteSusan queried his/her vbehaviour – to become, well, what, I wonder? And what is the ‘all’ that is ‘lost’? The extraordinary character of the belief. A person might move to agnosticism, for example. Quote2. And I wish I had the ability to think up witty thoughts, because the idea of practising atheism in an extraordinary way does raise a smile! Me to! Quote3. I do no

QuoteSusan stated in post 1 Atheists outside have no boundaries or barriers, are not confined to any shape. cam emter or leave any or all of the shapes freely, and can talk about outside. This may, quite understandably, seem a bit scary or risky with the thought of no boundary or instruction from the centre, but ssome , and a slowly increasing number, may realise they have been free of supernat

QuoteYve stated To the Realist This is all there is. Hi Yve, I suggest that your realist here is not a scientist. By examining reality we keep learning more and more about the world about us - and we haven’t finished yet, - so anyone saying “that’s all there is” is probably making a big mistake!

Ray, atheism is an extraordinary belief. If that’s a person’s nature, then then have to practice it in an extraordinary way. Once you moderate your views, all is lost.

QuoteMelissa stated Perhaps you're right. Religion is a glue. It is a great social bond, a common language. Religious people are in many ways very lucky. Well said but it kind of depends on finding the right group of people to religionize with. In the Middle Ages everyone had to belong to one religion or another often determined by the King. So I know happy religious people and some not

QuoteSusan opined Atheists outside have no boundaries or barriers, are not confined to any shape. cam emter or leave any or all of the shapes freely, and can talk about outside. Wow Susan, my comment is that this seems to be a supernatural view of atheism! Very interesting. Can you describe some of the shapes you attained? thanks.

Great point Gerda. Actually, no scientists who know modern physics are Simply materialist anymore. The Universe is composed of elementary particles and energy, i.e., the four fundamental forces. There is no philosophy of materialism anymore, as scientists cannot reduce natter to energy, or energy to matter. I think of it asa sliding scale, some experiences sre more material, some more spiritu

That’s right Yve. Reality is quite fungible and open to perspectives. That’s what makes it so great. Great picture coming up , talk later!

Hi Gerda, No, no not quarantined. Were sailing into St. Kitts this morning. Cloudy over the island. When I looked back to sea, there was a double rainbow. We’re going to Nevis today, which is a beautiful trip. Beauty is a great antidote to negative feelings. We’re just lucky folk.

Great point Rebecca, there really can be no real evidence of what is after death until, well, we’re dead. Unfortunately, that is true for both idealists and realists. Up to then it is feelings, intuition or guessing! Edited to add an apostrophe.

Some people are just more realistic than others are Gerda. I am sitting with my wife on our cruise ship veranda. We are watching two tugs push the Xiu Yuhai container ship into the dock across from us. Did god push the ship in, or did the two tugboats? Well, the realist would say the tugs. The spiritualist would say that god made such a scene possible. Maybe these are just two perspecti

QuoteSusan queried What is your clear definition of a sceptic? Hi Susan, I am using skeptic as it is defined in any dictionary, I don’t presume to have better or different definitions. Do you own a dictionary? If not, let me know, when I get home from vacation I will get my dictionary and post what I find there. Do you have your own “personal” clear definition of skeptic? I’m just su

QuoteSusan queried How do you decide whether a person is disagreeing just to disagree? I read people’s posts. When they disagree all the time using the same slogans and generalizations, you just know. Quote2. f they do, then a challenge should be made showing that they are mistaken by producing better evidence. When people play the skeptic and simply deny what other people say

Well said Melissa! The hardest thing in life is to balance our social nature as family, citizenship, club members and our individual nature as free thinking persons. It’s tough at times. Thanks for your thoughts.

My point is that when people disagree just to disagree, then that absolute skepticism is an impediment to discussion.

Ray, there is an extremely wide variance in human beliefs. I think that the problem you raise is with”skepticism” which leads to denial of the values humans develop in living. As a tool used simply to disagree with other people, skepticism becomes an impediment to productive discussion.

QuoteSusan agreed with Tom! Whatever apparent reaction that occurs, this is most likely to be a trait it has been lucky enough to acquire during the process of evolving and thus surviving. Great to see you working with Tom Susan. While the Theory of Evolution is a completely human idea, it is based here and there on the observation and categorization of the observations. The apparent rea

Hi Tom, we dwell within the expansion created by the Big Bang. Scientific opinion is diverse but the general assumption is simply that the Universe expanded, whether it expanded “into something”, something like a sedentary Universe, is anybody’s guess. I agree with you that the world reflects its violent beginnings but these beginnings were also very creative forming light energy through th
