QuoteIn spite of his promise to wipe out the national debt, President Trump just outed Republicans for their actual lack of concern about the national debt when they are in power, reportedly telling aides he doesn’t care about the national debt in part because when it really blows up, he’ll be out of office. Reporting in The Daily Beast, Asawin Suebsaeng and Lachlan Markay wrote that sources

Rethuglican anti-progressives are looking more and more like the impotent little bully in the schoolyard who wanted to change the rules so they won every game, despite being incompetent and worthless at everything.

QuoteState Rep. David Lewis (R), who chairs the elections committee, filed the bill in the North Carolina House of Representatives on Monday amid allegations of Republican-led ballot theft during the 2018 midterm elections. The bill would require election boards in every county in the state to be chaired by a member of the political party with the highest number of registered voters in odd-nu

Conversations flow much more smoothly, and no nuance or important information is lost if you ignore Archaic's posts completely, as I do.

So . . . starting an unnecessary trade war that requires the USA to pay farmers not to sell soybeans (ever again, mind you) to China is MAGA?

We might be using the same terms differently, leading to confusion. I have been accused of being amoral, because I operate exclusively teleologically. I don't allow an external moral system that has some kind of agenda (support the dominant religious system, don't upset societal conventions, etc) to influence my decisions, but rather choose actions that have utilitarian benefit in the end.

And here's the walkback! QuoteThe White House statement from December 1 does not mention any agreement on auto tariffs or anything about Chinese tariffs at all, and is vague on Trump’s claim about farmers: “China has agreed to start purchasing agricultural product from our farmers immediately.” On Tuesday, Trump walked back his assertion of a deal with China. He issued a series of tweet

Yeah, y'all have missed my point completely. It's a blinkered urge to pursue morality among deontologically inclined types that leads them to choose paths that cause harm, possibly from good intentions. It's the urge to utilitarianism among telelogically inclined types that leads them to ignore moralcore norms in pursuit of good outcomes. One of these positions is ethical, the other i

That's one of the nicest things about the universality of the internet, WW: doxing Nazis. It's a function of the free-market economy: if your value system is rejected by employers and vendors, you'll need to change it or starve.

Deep sigh. Of course medicare for all can't work. After all, that system doesn't work anywhere else on earth, ever. Unless you count 32 out of 33 developed countries. Are y'all saying the USA is worse at something than 99% of the world?

Fat Nixon came back from the G20 crowing that he'd fixed things up with the heathen Chinee! Quote“Farmers will be a a very BIG and FAST beneficiary of our deal with China,” Trump wrote on Twitter, adding, “China has agreed to reduce and remove tariffs on cars coming into China from the U.S. Currently the tariff is 40%.” Only one little problem. Neither the Chinese nor Fat Nixon's own team

Rational, single-payer health like they have in most civilised countries. Canadian health care is quite good, but could be improved if the provincial governments worked together with their federal government to negotiate drug prices as a country, the way New Zealand does.

Quote“It’s easy to pay for something that costs less,” Robert Pollin, economics professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and lead author of the new analysis, declared during a panel discussion at The Sanders Institute Gathering in Burlingon, Vermont, where Pollin unveiled the paper for the first time. According to the 200-page analysis of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) Medicare for A
