Turn the damn thing off Martin! Speaking of superstition, how about Lees wicket in the last innings when we were on 111.............freaky!

Wow! Take that Australia, Ponting has brought Shane on after only 12 overs, Tait got smashed for 12 of one over and we are scoring at 5 an over. So much for those suggesting we were going to play negatively. Looks like Pontings run out of ideas already! Crickets coming home, it's coming home, it's coming!

Agreed, It's like when Murray Walker retired from F1 commentry, end of an Era. Wouldn't it be nice for England to win the Ashes at his final test ;-) What's your view on no terrestrial Tests for 4 years? Scandalous springs to mind! My mate has a nearly perfect Benaud impression, he can keep going for hours too.....

One down..........looks like it's Collingwood to replace Jones. I good move i think, i was doubtful over Andersons suitabilty under pressure.

Just over an hour to go, sweaty palms already! Never been this nervous about a test before. Two important questions to be answered soon 1. Who is replacing Jones? 2. Who will win the toss? I'd love to see an England win with Freddie hitting a century but i fear batting fouth against Warney on a deteriorating pitch...... Still as long as we play better than our football team we should scrape

roscoe, Last 25 Ashes matches at the Oval Seems that winning the toss and batting is the key, mind you Aus don't win there too often :-)

Hi Deep, If it doesn't rain there will be a result at the oval. The way both teams are playing i can't see a draw after 5 days. The rate runs are being scored and wickets taken an innings is only lasting a day on average at the moment. Let's not hope McGrath is fit eh! Mind you saying that i think the in the absence of McGrath, Brett Lee has stepped up a gear or two so apart from the psychol

I don't think he wants to go down in history as the captain who lost the Ashes and the pressure is getting to him. Ho ho!

We got there! Not sure my nerves can take another one of these though..... >Did you see Lee get the giggles after Freddy just missed him with >a 'beheader'? His attitude is a fantastic advert for sport, I honestly think >he's cool as. The attitudes of both him and Fred have been great, the spirit (in general) the game has been played in have been wonderful to see.

Fantastic series, it just keeps getting better! Although i do think that after two failed attempts we will finally manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the last test......... I do hope it goes down to the last day, but only if we win ;-) It would be heart breaking to lose the last test when we would have been 3-1 up if it wasn't for the weather. The fact that the Aussies have n

He also needs to show that they were put there intentionally and what the intent is. The anchor could just as easily be an anchor. Is the symbol a generic MOD one? If so then the obvious answer would be: Anchor - Navy Swords - Army Eagle - Airforce But then i'm probably missing the point!

Best test series for years. Whilst i'm upset we only got a draw (man thats unusal for an England fan, we're normally ecstatic!) i think it sets the series up well. Full kudos to Ponting for a captains innings that saved his side (well it was the rain but hey give the man some credit!). Wasn't impressed with Harmisons last two overs, why bowl leg side & yorkers when there's 7 slips? Still

Nice post SS. Agree on your views on the policing of the boards but i do think GV overstepped the mark. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on Evo - ID. You are welcome to your belief just don't try ramming down my throat a la GV and i'll respect that. I still don't see why Evolution is a faith and i can't see why you can't accept there is no scientific evidence for ID but we can argue th

Good pic SS. I beg to differ though i think Bobby hit the nail right on the head. FSM theory has just as much evidence as ID (and creationism) ie none whatsoever. NB I'd be intrigued as to how you can draw spaghetti without it looking like cthulu! NNB Why do IDers insist on comparing ID with 'Darwinism'? We have moved on since Darwin you know.

Mel, just ignore him. Replying to him is just 'feeding the troll'. He loves the attention i guess it makes him feel 'big', probably compensating for something. Leave it up to Graham and Fuzzy to do something, hard though it is to let his vacuous drivel stand uncorrected.

Steve, I think part of the problem is that whilst we know that we aren't going to change his views there are many people who just view the threads and don't post (lurkers) and i for one find it galling to let such drivel go undefended. In the creation - evolution battle currently going on in the US, science has been very slow to act and this is a reason why science looks secular and elitest. I

Obviously wasn't that powerful was it as he is no more........... What were your thoughts on finishing it Mel? I was quite shocked at how depressing it all was, for a kids book. She manages to change the tone of the books quite well and this one is especially dark. It was wierd not having everything explained by DD at the end, and Harry just left 'in limbo' as it were. Before reading it thou

Quite possibly SS. Looking at data from Nationmaster it would seem that whilst high China's suicide rate is about half that of Lithuania's rate of just male suicides. It is a staggering number though and combined with global rates it looks like probably over 2 million people a year commit suicide. And everyone gets upset at terrorism....kinda puts it into perspective doesn't it?

Saw it last night too. As with all Ridley's films realism plays an important role. He managed to portray the battle scenes very well, all chaos and blood and ultimately pointless. A balanced view of the religions involved and yes Salahadin was excellent. Obviously there was some artistic licence with the story but overall a very good film.

Yeah, Tolkein that imbecile!! Funny post infintesimal, you plainly know nothing about his work to describe it as infantile and cute. Rob R 'If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.' J. R. R. Tolkien

Try looking up references to 'The Heros Journey' it is basically the plot for all heroic stories, films, sagas etc etc. I think HarryWJYoung's post expands on this idea. Personally i enjoyed the Star Wars films more on a pure 'enjoyment' level. LOTR's films we however much better overall. I would think that Tolkiens universe has quite alot more depth to it than Lucas's though!

2.2% of Naturally Occuring Iron is Fe-57. Would the make-up of meteroic iron be composed of iron-57 in larger quantities than on the earth? Whilst the ratio of nickel to iron is higher in meteorites than occurs naturally on earth there would have to be some pretty advanced experiments done to figure this out, i assume that's what you are implying. QuoteOf the stable isotopes, only Fe-57 has a

Gotta love this roundabout, by the way it's probably a mystery to most on these boards as i think there is only one roundabout in the US (or is that an urban myth?). Is it the only roundabout in the UK where you can go around anti-clockwise?
