Nolondil wrote, "Actually, it makes perfect sense. A radical is a radical. Which particular ideology he attaches to and uses to justify his temperament is incidental." Exactly, its not so much the "ideology" as it is the "methodology" that strikes a cord with certain people. The ideology is just a justification for the methodology and whatever ideology seems the b

Hi Sue; Sue said "Islam as a religion is absolutely no better or worse than any other organized religion or cult. In fact, it's equally true that the Christian religion is just as good as Islam in every way." You may be right Sue, just don't go to Saudi Arabia and say that 'cause you'd probably lose your head or at the very least some Wahabiist (sp) would issue a Fatwa for it. degiem

I remember reading "The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich" many years ago and one of the statements the author quoted Hitler as saying. In general it went something like this: If it had not been for the "Great Depression" that was felt not only in the United States but throughout Europe, Hitler claimed he would have had to come up with some way to cause something similar in o

To me the implementation of a subset of laws for a particular group is extremely diversive for the whole of any country. If I were to immegrate (sp) (Oh, how I need spell check) to another country I would be expected to abide by the laws of that country and it would be expected of me that I understood this before being accepted as a citizen of that country. Once I became a citizen of that countr

Frankly, if this is common practice in Dubai then I have a very simple solution: DON'T GO THERE. Don't vacation there, don't do business trips there and put out traveller warnings that Dubai is a place where you can end up in jail for inadvertantly stepping on the remnants of someone elses illegal activities. There are many countries in this world where democracy, human rights and freedoms an

Maybe she made the statement as a ploy, either her own or asked by someone else, in order to get Osama to do something to prove he is still alive. In which case, he or one of his cronies might slip up and give away his location. degiem1

Agreed, it seems like every President in the recent past has decided he is going to solve the "Middle East Problem" before he leaves office and there is always one thing or another that causes it to fail. I don't see this time as being any different from the others. Things may start to go smoothly then some incident will happen and the whole thing will blow up as usual. degiem1

I must have been in a cave, was there an election in Lebanon and the presiding president didn't like the results? What brought on this state of emergency? I seem to have missed the boat on this one. degiem1

Hi, being a Canadian, when our dollar was about $0.67 U.S. we saw on the news that this was bad as things from the U.S. would cost us a whole lot more. Now our dollar is about $1.08 U.S. and we are being told this is bad because our exports will decrease and jobs will be lost. Frankly I think the economists are full of it and the media is nothing more than a facilitator of bad news all the time.

As I see it, even if the Republicans are ousted from power in the next election, the law has been amended for any future president to make use of. Unless the Democrats come to power AND re-amend the law to its previous status (as well as maybe a few others) then Americans have lost one more of their democratic safety valves. The more constitutional safety valves that are lost then the more danger

If such a relic was found then the three religions (Islam, Judaeism and Christianity) would argue, fight and probably go to war over who gets to possess it, just like they have over Jerusalem for the past two millenia. Then when God comes to Earth they could say (with blood on their hands and faces), "Here Lord, look how I protected your icon (or City) and smote the enemy who tried to take i

Bullpucky, you prove to me that you can KNOW what is a bomb triggering device from a distance (ie. without closer inspection) and I will herald your name to every nation on planet Earth as the person they should contact in cases of suspected bomb threats. Then you can show them all how silly they are for taking precautions against such things. degiem1

"Everyone with more than only one braincell could have seen this as not being a real bomb." Well I guess the above precludes you. I'm an avionics technichian and I know how easy it is to rig a bomb with plastic explosives. If someone walks into an airport terminal with an electronic device on them do you honestly think that the person at the desk knows right away that it is a piece of

You bet Hoppy. So many times the populous(sp) critisizes the authorities for being lax when some nutjob succeeds in doing harm to people. Yet when the authorities err on the side of caution/safety for that self same populous they are the first to call for heads to roll or say that the authorities over reacted. Look at 911 and how many people are bit**ing about the authorities not acting on susp

Quote from the article: "Star Simpson, 19, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and approached an airport employee in Terminal C at 8 a.m. to inquire about an incoming flight from Oakland, according to Major Scott Pare of the State Police. She was holding a lump of what looked like putty in her hands. The employee asked about the plastic circuit board on her chest, and Simpson walked away

I draw the line at the gov't screwing with what I eat. Years from now when the gov't tells you that the only food you can eat is the genetically modified crap they are so lovingly giving you (and overcharging you for) and it is for your health and well being and is the only legal food you are allowed to eat you might start to draw the line too. Yes, I know this is an exageration ... well, right

Ah yes, and while were at it lets outlaw all beer, wine and spirits in England as those are well known to cause health problems to the public in general. And while were at it lets raise taxes or just outlaw altogether sports in general as there is ample evidence that these activities lead to injuries which are another drain on the health care system and the poor taxpayer. And on and on and... Fr

From your list, one is left with the impression that only the Europeans and their offspring (i.e. USA, Canada, South Africa, Mexico, etc...) were engaged in some form of war during that time period. I would hazard a guess that if you took a look into Middle Eastern nations, Asian Nations, African Nations, South American Nations, etc. during the same time period you would be able to come up with a

k w hogan, I appreciate that war can be and is hell and that it takes a strong stomach to endure it. However my point was that the man in the story was telling a version of hell that may not be true and that we as the recipients of his story should take care to check the validity of his story before going on a propaganda war path. If its true that this man flunked out of basic training he may h

I agree with "come on pilgrim" here. Caution concerning this man's story is not without merit. The man in question is making some very inflamatory statements and before everyone takes his word as the unbridled truth his story should be fully checked out. Too many times people see something that inflames their emotions only to find out later that the information was erroneous or a flat
