Some Niel Bohr quotes: QuoteWe are suspended in language in such a way that we cannot say what is up and what is down. The word "reality" is also a word, a word which we must learn to use correctly. The fact that religions through the ages have spoken in images, parables, and paradoxes means simply that there are no other ways of grasping the reality to which they refer. But that

Tom, Let's be clear. You write "flow of consciousness" chatter which is often interesting and always worthwhile. Science is not something you do. At all. Ray

yielding to Public Health experts in his team as appropriate and necessary: QuoteOn Monday, President Donald Trump finally held a press conference in which he didn’t contradict the advice of experts and gave solid advice to Americans on the coronavirus pandemic — after weeks of a public response that experts have described as unhelpful and disturbing.[/;quote] Quoteit’s . . . . a marked shi

With or without a Coronavirus threat,we need to be following public health protocols anyway, but especially if we are at risk. I've learned to take my annual flu shot and to avoid exposure. This year, being my most observant year, I've been rewarded with congestion free health since my Fall vaccination. So, with coronavirus, it's what we should already be doing "on steroids" beca

Eddie, Everything here, so far, is self quarantine. I don't know anyone who's even been tested. The one I know about, talking to his doctor by phone, was advised not to get a test. About half of our church members opted to stay home yesterday. About half of the churches cancelled services altogether. Ray

Yve, We're way behind in testing, so we don't know much about anything. Public health is local here, and doing a great job implementing standard protocols. People seem to have caught on about the need for social distancing. Everything involving groups together has been shut down/closed. Our lives have completely changed. By April, we'll probably know something. Ray

Tom, As I've suggested before, stay away from science--at least serious science. Speculating about science and philosophy are OK, but going beyond pop science is difficult--requires preparation and experience. I often spend an entire day on a single 2 or 3 page study--and I still get it wrong sometimes. A typical doctoral student I work with takes years to go from ideas to a relatively tiny

Hard to get excited about a debate that's mostly a forum for conciliation between Bernie and Joe, Eddie. Didn't like Biden's commitment to pick a female VP, but I can see why he made it. He doesn't seem to realize he doesn't need to posture any more--and could use several months to think things through before deciding anything. Ray

We're making extra efforts to sanitize the meals we're serving them through better packaging--anticipating the need to test and quarantine those who test positive. This is the calm before the storm. Ray

Eddie, the article claims there are many alternatives--but provide no detail. Especially interesting if they could be available sooner--and if NIH would grandfather them in without separate testing if from another country. Is there a better source article with more detail? Ray

at the local level. Protocols are implemented locally by public health. My church is heavily involved since we minister to the homeless, those with drug and alcohol problems (12 steps), and seniors. Our campus has been an emergency preparation center for earthquakes, so we're already in the loop. I'm less effected than most, since I'm already working online a great deal, but for my son, wh

Seasmith, I've been disapproving of Donald even before he thought he was a Clinton Democrat. He's run a negative approval/disapproval over all those years--currently a negative 11: 53-42. But my thinking changed last night as I was watching his National Emergency announcement. It made me switch from "when" he would resign, to How/Why. Ray

he has to--not because he wants to, Pete That's my impression. One way or another, IMO, that's what will lead to his resignation. How I feel is totally irrelevant. The one who'll do in Donald is Donald himself. Ray

Robert, I've read many of your posts before, and don't support the direction your thinking has gone, but you've done some great reviews and analyses--raised many interesting questions in a fresh way. Instead of serious discussion, you've become the victim of "professional" debunkers. There's even a website that explains how to do it: They claim to be defending science, but v

we don't know. It continues concerns expressed for weeks--highlighted by Donald's exposure to two Brazilians who tested positive. Several prominent Republicans who were exposed at that same meeting self quarantined. His Daughter Ivanka met with an Australian who is now hospitalized with COVID-19. Donald continued as before, shaking hands--refusing to be tested. Indicated he would be travelin

Some say never, but Bernie has already articulated a path to bring them together that will start on Sunday: QuoteBiden opened the door in his own speech on Tuesday night. "I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their tireless energy and their passion. We share a common goal," Biden said. "And together, we'll defeat Donald Trump." He then reiterated, &q

Susan, Mark and I have had many conversations at GHMB over the years that require a sense of Spirituality that we both share. This most recent conversation begins with Mark's response to this OP, in which Mark asserts that he is a philosophical dualist. That fit in very well with my impressions of his posts over the years, so I tried to see how he would look at it in a broader perspective.
