I think of the devil as a force that we can contribute to. If enough people contribute to it, then it becomes a power of its own--but only if we allow it to be so. In other words, we give Satan his power.

Could the ancient gods and goddesses (what we call mythology) be a corruption of something that was originally more noble?

Eddie, how old are you? This was all happening in the '60s. Nothing new under the sun.

I agree. They have to be unified. Otherwise you're leading an inconsistent life.

Doesn't Catalonia have a certain degree of independence already? Spain seems like a miniversion of the EU.

Who determines whether something or someone is ugly or beautiful? Isn't it rather subjective already?

I am just as surprised to hear some good news coming out of Texas. Wow! My views are the same as the university president's. Kudos!

QuoteGood points there. The idea of relocating the statues to a museum appears reasonable and uncontroversial. Destroying them in a riot is just plain vandalism. Like them or not, they're a reminder of an ugly chapter in your history. Don't ignore that history. Acknowledge it happened, place its symbols in museums out of everyday sight, and move on. I don't see how anyone could object to that

Well, if you look at it that way, we are also creating history today. And I think it's better for the people as a whole.

I do not agree that statues represent history. They represent the glorification of a certain part of history, which may or may not be appropriate. I am not aware of an instance where there was a official decision to destroy a Confederate statue. The desire was only to move it to a less prominent place, which seems reasonable to me.

On the spiritual level, souls have existed from the beginning. But if you're talking about the physical level, no.

Eddie, this debate has been going on for over 200 years! It is somewhat alarmist. Yes, adjustments will need to be made, but life will go on.

You must be talking about AT&T. They are a lost cause. Better to find another provider than to shorten your lifespan.

I agree. There are so many variables that it's impossible to make sweeping generalizations. Overall a college education is a plus. Even a two-year degree is better than stopping at high school, although I recognize that it's not for everyone. Also, nowadays there is more of a cost/benefit problem. Student loans can put people in debt for life. It was not always so.

Yes, a big job, but it looks like he's up to the task. France has to start somewhere. Just look at the mess Obama inherited in 2009.
