Gerda In science, an idea isn't wrong, just not as god at explaining unusual circumstances and rare events--wait! Doesn't that sound like Newtonian Mechanics? Suppose I trained baseball hitters ohn the presumption that the playing field was flat--and you trained them to adjust their swing a bit down to correct for that curvature. What if my hitters got more hits during the game? Ray

In American political elections, the Presidential candidate serves as a symbolic placeholder for his/her respective party in an attempt to bring their diverse constituents to the polls. Donald is a very peculiar placeholder for Republicans, if he becomes the candidate again. It's not a dynasty. I follow this as an American who will participate in the process. Sending in my primary vote to

I haven't paid any attention at all to the candidates, yet-because it's too soon to know much, Paul. Our first glimpse comes on super Tuesday--and I'd be impressed with any decisive results. The media make their money with the ebb and flow of debates ad controversy, but elections are won by organizational talent, perseverance--and luck. The "machines" that are out there support

They've been crossing that border for thousands of years--back and forth, Steven. Many have family on both sides of that border. We've been abusing our natives everywhere we've found them--suspect you know all about that with the first people. Ray

Steven, Immigration has been at the center of American policy for the last 150 years. We're got substantial blocks of land that constitute countries within our country (Native Americans), groups of people we've displaced or even imprisoned, and corresponding administrative changes that have stayed a step or two behind changing realities. Both political parties are savvy to the complexities

Eddie, There's very little ideological switching in Presidential races: it's almost entirely who shows up on election day--and those who vote Democrat are the least reliable. We don't have a candidate nominated for either party, and lots can happen between now and election day. These forecastings are money makers because there are many who want to read them. Ray

Paul, This is a good example of the difference between Canadian and American thought. Canada does have a leftist infrastructure in place that liberal Americans would love to have--but we don't. That's especially the case with medicine. A lot of our American liberal ideals have been served by Supreme Court decisions--with no infrastructure to back them up. The clumsy bureaucratic support

Hi Yve, Right now I have two projects related to "emotional intelligence," and the interest is very human. This is not what we are doing, but you might be interested in taking this quiz: My doctoral student believes that emotional intelligence is critical to business success. I'm not a fan of artificial intelligence--not anything like human intelligence, Ray

19. Test
Gerda, If someone subscribes to a flat earth belief, that's fine with me but To convince a skeptical scientist, that person needs to suggest an either/or test: maybe a light moving away at night on a flat road in Kansas (very flat state). I*f the earth is flat, it would remain visible; if not, it would disappear. Repeat, observing from higher and higher elevation observatory: one see
