I used to believe this. Now I see everyone as set in their ways. Some are so certain of everything that has been learned that they automatically assume everything else is wrong. In this world only the specialists on the cutting edge can possibly make even the tiniest discovery. Those who jump on every new thing aren't so much gullible as that they reject what they've been taught so want to fill the void with something, anything. Both are illogical but they are the same side of the same coin.

The real opposite of reflexive skepticism is true skepticism where the individual doesn't accept anything as the final word. Even "I think therefore, I am" is taken as a working hypothesis rather than "Truth" itself.

The bottom line is all of us tend to let others do some of our thinking and some of us have totally lost the ability to think at all due to disuse. This is the cause of most reflexive skepticism. We do a very poor job of self analysis because we understand the terms and ourselves relative other people and on floating scales.

Man fears the pyramid, time fears man.
