Good question, thank you. This idea -- that if one one consumes food or drink in the underworld one is doomed to spend eternity there -- is widespread throughout ancient mythology. The most famous myth in which we hear of this is the story of Persephone's abduction to the underworld. But the Japanese have a similar story -- the story of Izanagi and Izanami. So too does ancient Indian myth in the story of Nachiketas' visit to the underworld realm of Yama, the Hindu God of Death: "Three nights within Yama's mansion stay; But taste not, though a guest, his food."
