Thanks for the reply. I must admit I used the term brilliant partly as a touch of sarcasm, but also as a nod to quite how effective in can be in the popular media. He uses mockery and distraction as any stage conjuror. The subject is rendered toxic to inquiry by fear of social embarassment.
