The notion of consciousness running a loop of life might find faour with one of the latest Timeless Spacetime. I started a science chat on this recently.

In this type of model ideas such as now are quite illusional. Relativity rules out a universal now. Every event plays out as a part of a single whole, which might be viewed as a single entity or pattern. As a result, couldn't other, connected parts of our conscious selves simoultaneously be experiencing other lives in other times? Indeed this also throws up the somewhat distasteful slight possibility of an idea that there is only one consciousness in the first place.

Playing this out even further one might see time in our relationship to double slit experiments. Imagine the consciousness of the viewer seen outside of time compelling a spread of wave collapses around everything it viewed. This would maintain a non-deterministic but fixed and permanent pattern of events from the big bang forward.
