There are religions that use ayahuasca as their sacrament, like the Santo Daime and Unao Do Vegetale, where it is drunk every 2 weeks in ceremony. These are discussed at length in the book.
Of course there are many theories that the original religious sacrament was a psychedelic, so this may be just a return to old ways. For instance, Shi'ite Muslims are now permitted to take psychedelics under the guidance of a priest. This new edict may be because of Hoama, a substance used in the past, which may even be a Middle Eastern variant on ayahuasca.
