Hi Michael! Thank you for the welcome!

I love the Tarot! Yes, I am familiar with the sketchy history of the Tarot, but also of Gebelin's findings. I refer to Levi in my book, Shamanic Qabalah, and utilize his Tarot correlations (refined by the Golden Dawn) to the Tree of Life in my mapping of the Great Work. I believe Levi also referred to the Tarot as the true Book of Thoth from Hermes Trismegistus, stemming from Egypt and gone underground during the burning at the Library of Alexandria. Crowley then took on legacy of the Tarot being the true Book of Thoth-Hermes (seeing as Crowley claimed to be a reincarnation of Levi himself).

I do believe that, at the end of the day, if someone could only have one thing to learn all there is to know in the occult or Great Work, the Tarot would be a valuable key.

In the modern mystery schools participants are often guided, as a higher level of initiation, to create their own Tarot. It is only through the process of the individual re-creating their own version of the Tarot (which is in itself a map of the soul) that the initiate can truly "Know Thyself" fully and elevate to the higher grades. I aim someday soon to try that myself!
