The Maori arrived in New Zealand from eastern Polynesia in waves from 1250 and 1300 AD.

The Maori language is similar to other Austronesian languages in the region. This should come as no surprise as the Maori are of the same ethnicity as other Austronesian people, incluidng the Malays.

The Malay word for "sky" is "langit". The same word is used in Indonesia (including Sudanese and Javanese), in the Philippines (including Tagalog and Cebuano)

The native Hawaiians use the word "lani" for sky. It is the same word as langit but G and T are dropped.

The Maori word for sky is "rangi" (Same as langit but L tuns into R and T is dropped).

The Indians have a known history with South East Asia going back to over 2,000 years. Hinduism and Buddhism was spread to SE Asia by the Indians.

You will find scattered references to SE Asia in Hindu literature such as the Ramayana. The famous Kecak dance in Bali is based the monkey army led by Hanuman.. [www.youtube.com]

The Kalinga dynasty sailed from Odisha, India to Borobudur, Indonesia.

The Pallava Dynasty spread its culture and language throughout SE Asia. Many SE Asian scripts are derived from the Pallava script.

The Tamil Chola Empire attacked the Srivijayan Empire in the year 1025 AD. [en.wikipedia.org]

The Tamil Bell found in New Zealand is about 500 years old. The Tamil inscription has been translated as "Muhayideen Baksh’s ship’s bell". The name is of Indian Muslim origin.
