Gigantism would almost be more likely than Marfan's, using clinical features as a proxy. But both can probably be ruled out from known data collected from the 1950's digs, the total absence of such pathological features is really quite overt actually. To stress an important point, the prognathism in the Adena people tended to be alveolar, not traditional mandibular prognathism as is often present in acromegalics. The incidence of gigantism is about 3 or 4 in a million, and prevalence of Acromegaly perhaps 50 in a million. Rare. And as the oestological evidence of gigantism and acromegaly is very weak for these Adena honored dead, Marfan's syndrome is probably the weakest, as clinical features present with Marfan's consist of slender weak bones, often scoliosis of the spine in severe cases, long disproportionate arms, and disproportionately long legs, deformity of the sternum, often pectus excavatum, narrow shoulders, narrow jaw with overcrowding of teeth, and a stature often from 6 to 6'6" tall. Aside from stature, and the fact that Marfan's is also about as rare as acromegaly (1 in 5,000 or 10,000) the skeletal features of marfan's are almost exactly the opposite of the Adena skeletal morphology, to the finest detail. The Adena had robust extremely strong bones with pronounced muscular attachments, wide jaws, and round tall vaulted skulls, and otherwise strong bodies on a tall, and often very tall stature. Vitamin D was probably low in wintertime, that can certainly be true. However, like the Eskimo of the far north, alternative sources via some foods, fish like salmons especially, when consumed regularly could curb the rate of deficiency, theoretically. For instance, 3 oz of smoked lake sturgeon, approximates 546 international units of Vitamin D -these are Not bad for fish native to the region, and great lakes, but the lack of anti nutrients, grains, and cultivated carbohydrates that contained phytic acids, among a primarly hunter-gatherer tribe (such as the post agricultural world is awash in) probably contributed to a sturdier and more robust body (arguably anyways). The great stature certain chiefly, or leading lineages among the Adena and Hopewell were reaching i.e. 6'6", 7, even up to 8 feet tall, undoubtedly had genetics going far back into archaic times to produce such huge people, over 4,000 years ago as Jason and Sarah illustrate in the archaeological literature in their book. Perhaps the biggest shocker is that living non pathological descendants of these people, the descendants of the Adena and Hopewell exist to present times, some Native American descendants of them, standing a commanding seven feet and more of stature, and of immense muscular frame and strength.
