Again, agreed.

I can't speak for other geographic areas, but this region isn't known for blue skies and sunshine even in summer. In winter, you can forget about seeing the sun in January and February. We get more rainfall and have more cloudy days than Seattle due to proximity to Lake Erie. Vitamin D production is an issue and I've seen plenty of cases of ricketts in my career.

My point is that they would have suffered nutritional deficiencies, especially in winter.

1984 was a warning, not a how-to guide.
