I may be especially sensitive since my last name gets confused with "bricks" all the time.

In any case, last presentation I attended at Cal Tech, they were big on self assembling systems. The only ones I've ever seen were in my old photography darkroom when my unattended chemical baths turned into crystals. Using similar techniques to turn tiny grains or strands of silica into a living cell seems to me to be a different world.

I think we're still far removed from rocks and stones coming alive.
