I grew up in West Virginia and used the word "pop" until I started dating a girl from Pennsylvania. She made merciless fun of my "southern"
terminology, so I switched to the word soda. It continues even after we broke up. Soon after that, I was in a play where I played an English vicar. Then I started seeing someone from New Jersey. Now, no one can place my accent.
I do not think I have ever used the term restroom. I always wondered why you even called them restrooms until I found out ladies' rooms actually had couches. Mens' rooms smell so bad I could not imagine anyone actually resting in one unless he had passed out.
