I haven't heard that term, but my dad grew up in western Pennsylvania as well (Altoona), and one peculiarity he had was adding R's to certain words where they weren't present. He would say Warshington, warshing up. I don't know if that's a general Appalachian quirk, or if it's some influence from the Schweizer Deutsch of the Amish, or what, but he spelled the words correctly in writing them, but added the R's unconsciously when speaking them aloud.
