It has been discussed here before but I think I now have a fairly strong defence against spy ware and viruses for nothing I want to share this with you all.
First of all, I use this Dutch program called Hitman Pro.
Hitman Pro is a free suite that you can download here for installing on a W2k or XP system.
Don’t worry about the Dutch mumbo jumbo because it actually installs straightforward when using the default settings. I used default all the way.
Hitman pro uses all of the known good working free anti spy ware programs like:
- Ad-Aware SE 6.2 (version 1.05)
- Webroot Spy Sweeper 3 (1
- Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3
- SpywareBlaster 3.2
- McAfee Stinger (when applicable)
Hitman pro incorporates all these programs into a scripted suite and you only have to press run and leave it well alone for awhile. It took over 30 min to complete on my set up btw. It will automatically run the freeware programs subsequently and in the mean time makes sure they work with their own most recent definitions. In the end a report is filed for you to check. When I first used it, it did take out Trojans for crying out loud.
O, they are working on an English version to be released soon.
And after install, they do not say anything about a restart, but I think it is better to do so because it stopped half way through the first run. But after a restart it worked like a charm :-))
Secondly I use XP so I have the new beta Microsoft anti spy ware program. In its own right it is effective because it also has a few extra features like erase track and stuff.
As anti virus I run the free “AntiVir Personal Edition” you can download from here.
When I had that running for the first time, it did take out even more Trojans tucked away somewhere secret.
I feel comfortable with this setup.
