Several months ago, Bloomberg News claimed that Super Micro motherboards used in many major tech company data centers had been discovered to be compromised by Chinese intelligence agencies. All of the named parties denied the story, not only Super Micro but also the victims supposed to have discovered the hack -- such as Amazon, Apple, and Google. Bloomberg stuck with the story, continuing to insist that it was simply being covered up for obvious reasons.

Now Super Micro has announced the results of an intensive examination of their own hardware and manufacturing processes by an outside technical firm. No evidence of compromised hardware was found. Or so they say. But this is the age of fake news, disinformation, and paranoia. So far Bloomberg News has not retracted their story.

In High-tech American, tech industry makes public paranoid, and public makes tech industry paranoid.
