So here's the deal. The reason I ask about your background was to see if you are able to make an intelligent assessment of the Lunar Lander. If you are a hands on technical type I would think you were capable of making that assessment. If you sit behind a desk and look at pictures and repeat what others think or say about the Lunar Landing, well. You are judging this piece of equipment solely by photos. Perhaps you should seek out someone who actually worked on the Lunar Lander and get the real story. In fact is there anybody on this forum who worked on the Apollo Project? You don't understand the Lunar Lander was KISS technology at it's best. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Now for the AC question. If you remember the Skylab Project, it was a two or three man space station back in the 60's, before Apollo. It got so hot in the interior a space walk was conducted to place a mylar film over one side of the spacelab to cool it down. That's when NASA engineers found out they only needed a minor shield to block the sun and regulate temperature. A lot of our satellites have to be heated or cooled depending on the equipment on board and that is done by exposure to the sun, some actually have heaters. If you are talking about conventional air conditioning like you have at home, I don't think NASA engineers would use it. Did you know there are satellite management companies that keep satellites at the proper attitude to the sun for temperature control and power generation. They also turn them away from the sun when solar flares occur.
