Hertz - the international unit of frequency, equal to 1 cycle per second.
Frequency - the number of times any action or occurance is repeated in a given period.
Cycles - a period of time within which a round of regularly re-occuring events or phenomena is completed.
sound wave - a longitudinal pressure wave stimulated by a mechanical disturbance of an elastic medium, as air.
Wavelength - the distance measured in the direction of progression of a wave, from any given point to the next point characterized by the same phase.
Shortwave - an electromagnetic wave that is shorter than those used in commericial broadcasting, usually a radio wave sixty meters or less in length.
Longwave - an electromagnetic wave that is longer than those used in commercial broadcasting, usually a radio wave longer than 1000 meters and below 300khz in frequency.
Doppler Effect - the apparent change of frequency of sound waves or light waves, varying with the relative velocity of the source and the observer, if the source and observer are drawing closer together, the observed frequency is higher then the emitted frequency.
Vibrate - To give off light or sound by oscilliation.
Oscilliation - a regular variation between maximum and minimum values as of current or voltage.
phase - the fractional part of a cycle through which a periodic wave, as of light, sound, etc..has advanced at any instant, measured from an arbitrary starting point or assumed moment of starting.
modulation - a variation in the amplitude, frequency or phase.
amplitude - the extreme range of a fluctuating quantity, as an alternating current, generally measured from the average or mean to the extreme.
Harmonics - a component of voltage or current, whose frequency is some integral multiple of a fundamental frequency.
medium - an intervening thing through which aforce acts or an effect is produced, any surrounding or pervading substance in which bodies exist and move.
carrier - the steady transmitted wave whose amplitude, frequency or phase is modulated by the signal
