I thought some of you might find this interesting....just how bad Biblical illiteracy is in the U.S. The problem with modern Christianity is "not" the Bible, it's the "lack" of knowledge of the Bible.
Here are some frightening statistics:
* 60% of Americans cannot name even 5 of the 10 Commandments
* Fewer than half of all adults can name the 4 gospels
* 50% of graduating high school seniors think Sodom and Gomorrah are husband and wife.
* A considerable number of respondents indicated that the Sermon on the mount was preached by Billy Graham.
"Increasingly, America is biblically illiterate." – George Barna
"For example, despite the talk about how important the Ten Commandments are to the moral health of American society, six out of 10 Americans can't name half of them, much less in order.
And a 1997 Barna Organization poll showed that 12 percent of Christians thought Noah's wife was Joan of Arc, while 80 percent of born-again Christians thought it was the Bible that said "God helps them that help themselves."
Actually, Ben Franklin said that. But don't feel bad if you got it wrong. George W. Bush, who famously cited Jesus as his favorite political philosopher, also cited Franklin's adage as the Christian basis for his policy of "compassionate conservatism." [unquote]
Only HALF of all Pastors have a Biblical world view.
If Christians actually took out their bibles and blew the dust off, America would see another "Dust Bowl". One pastor I knew who recently passed away stated, "Christians don't need another revival. What they need is a 're-Bible' ".
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." (Hosea 4:6)
