That is, if the Avatar leaves. If the Avatar itself never goes away, then the only frank conclusion is that these institutions are set up according to the perserverance of the Avatars wishes itself, and not left to the mindless judgements of mere mortals.

I agree. But enlightened people will see right through them. Forgiving people will forgive them. Hateful people will hate them.

Sounds like a cult, not a church. There is a difference.

No, but it is a negative and over embellished fear. The fundies are wrong. The sheep are sad and sorry. Instead of hating both factions, you should be compassionately trying to open both their eyes - or are the sheep really just fundies too?
