I sent the book, Jesus and Moses etal., out more than 100 TIMES, getting only two acceptances. Although the book is no masterpiece, due to my constant revising, collation of incoming information, and as new insights from my inflow of references forced me to change my ideas constantly, I refused to let them edit it their way because they wanted to tear out its guts in order to please everybody and remove my personal opinions.
Andrew, the evolution of the computer and print-on-demand publishing are causing the publishing industry to undergo an evolution as great as the Industrial Revolution. Only a lucky few can hope to make big earnings in writing any more. And for people like me who like to write about weird topics, perish the thought.
My advice to you is to get your book set up for print-on-demand. Iuniverse is very economical, although they've increased their fees recently. I got my "monster" printed for about $350, with five free copies. I'm also pleased to say that I have sold quite a few copies since it was first published in 2000. Just go ahead and follow your dream. But if you want to get rich, I recommend buying foreclosures, fixing them up, and selling them.
