Hi Anne-Marie
I origonally purchased the book on addictive thinking for, at the time, a girlfriends daughter who was dating a alcoholic. She refused to accept the book so I skimmed the book making notes on the page corners for later reference and put it away.Recently after reading banah's biblical research and differing discussions about karma and reincarnation I decided to finally read the book entirely.Something about the book seemed to pop up in my head that I thought was relevent.Ananda wrote a post on the idea that the information failure propagated by the media about our governments intelligence failure in Iraq was the result from our own individual failure.I thought it was a brilliant piece and very insightful and true. But evidently not to many others did since she recieved minimal response.I wondered why? This question and banah's research led me into wondering if addictive thinking is the result of humankinds Karma.Part of the addictive personality is self deception. One of the interesting things about addictive thinking is that people of higher intelligence often manifest through their behavior a higher level of addictive thinking. Therefore intelligence is no protection against self deception.Actually the higher the intelligence the more intense and elaborate the rationalization used to justify the self deception becomes. It is the distorted rationalizations that creates and supports the self deception.Doesn't it seem to you that humankind for all of our advances in science, medicine and technology just seems to make the same mistakes over and over again. For all of our material advances we really haven't advanced that much in the spiritual realm. When I write about spirituality I'm just not writting about religion but also about morality, values and ethics. We as a species make the same mistakes as our ancestors but we seem to apply more intense and elaborate rationalization for there justifications than they did.It appears that we don't really learn from our past mistakes universally.I was told by a Bhuddist a long time ago in Asia that a way to recognize Karma was to identify the things that keep happening over and over again throughout life.If the same things happen over and over again they may be an indication of karma. If this is true then wouldn't humankind karma be recognized the same way?If it is,which I believe, then addictive thinking is something that humankind has to address in order for us to advance.I don't think we will advance until we do.We have to eliminate our self deceptions. If we continue to advance in intelligence(Increase our ability to learn and understand)in all areas except spirituality then we only become what we already are.And this is a species who will continue to create more intense and elaborate rationalizations to support our self deceptions.A thousand years from now we will still be dealing with many of the mistakes we deal with today and have dealt with in the past.So can humankind turn around the negative impact of addictive thinking and change.Yes they can but I don't believe many people realize what the real problem is.Ananda said it best when she wrote that the real intelligence failure was our own failure of intelligence.Unless each individual searches and tries to change the self deception and the other addictive traits we posess we will continue to have intelligence failure in our future.

Thank you,dane
