Aren't you both correct? Isn't water usually symbolic of the soul or psyche and sometimes the holy spirit? Isn't the water Jesus gives at the well to quench their thirst forever, the Holy Spirit or the Christ consciousness, the divine source in the heart center, the divine Word, the holy grail, etc? Whereas the water drawn to quench earthly desire leaves one always in need of more.
Isn't this what Jesus is talking about in John?
It appears he uses water to teach things about spiritual truths about ourselves. Isn't water into wine symbolic of the spiritualisation of ones soul? Isn't the walking on water symbolic of the Christ consciousness having mastered the emotions or psyche, having fully spiritualised it? He uses water in different ways, from different perspectives, but essentially its always symbolic of things related to our soul in relation to the holy spirit.
And water is always symbolic of our soul or psyche in other mystical writings as well.
These are my own understandings anyway.
What do you think?
