From my readings and observations I have come to believe that the "I" in every person is so indivisibly linked to the neural wiring of our brains that it becomes quite meaningless to talk of reincarnation in the sense that the actual person is transported from one body to another. We are to a very large degree our body - specifically our brain.
I do, on the other hand observe that many people claim to have experienced what you prefer to describe as telepathic links to previous existing persons, and I find no reason to disbelieve that many of these events have actually happened.
I think we are all somehow connected to a planetary common consciousness, and that 'downloads' from the stored experiences in this can occur for some reason or another.
There is a limited number of Egyptian princesses who have lived, you know. 8-)
