I don't believe Jesus' parables were designed to conceal secrets. With a little thought, reflection and perseverance, their meaning becomes self evident. Even the meanings of the dense symbolism in Revelation can be sought out with a sincere desire to understand. That's why Jesus said who ever seeks will find. It's not necessary to depend on so-called adepts to become enlightened.
Jesus did not request that his teaching style should be continued by others in the same style, either. When he instructed his followers not to throw pearls before swine, he was saying not to waste time speaking to people who had no intention understanding. If you'd have quoted the whole of Matthew 7:6, it's clear that the "swine", Jesus was referring to, were not the general public, whom the initiated regard as the "unwashed" but to those in particular who are violently (physically or verbally) opposed to the truth:
"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces." - Matthew 7:6
If I were around in jesus' time, I'm sure I would have asked him questions!
