I agree, in the sense that much of what we think is "new" has been thought of before. And much of what has been thought of before has been formally constructed into religious patterns and memes which have prevailed throughout the centuries to this very day.
However, imho, we surely cannot be certain that all of what we think today has all been touched on by others in times past. And what is certainly, AFAIK, original today , is the availability of mass communications and media such as message boards, which help so much for like minded people to communicate. So, in a sense, the latter can help reinforce that "feeling", or sense, of "something" more than what we would normally accept as the Status Quo, certainly. That is why we search for answers, in different ways. For some it is the path of safe job, home and family, etc, for others it is the exploration of mystic truths , or a romance with the past, or a love of the Arts, or the thrill of exploration, or a spiritual experince etc.
