A weakness of philosophy Neil, is that we try to understand the “world” by thinking. Well, thinking about things allows us to describe what we see and think about it. You are indubitably right that thinking only leads to correlations, that is descriptions of how are descriptions work. To get to causes, you have to do work, that is you have fo manipulate all that described reality, all that stuff. You have to take it apart and put it back together to see, understand, how it actually works. We call this last bit science.
