I believe that from the very beginning of human life, the "mind" leads the neuron and neural systems throughout the body, putting most neural activities under automatic control--leaving the mind to function like a person within a person to respond within and without.

Consciousness allows us to take back control over automatic activities as needed but we remained baffled over how this all can happen. Connections outside of our self are not obvious.
