I see everything in terms of Awareness. I have all these Awarenesses which I experience separated by space/time and need to try and understand enough to make use of them in my own propagation. Some of those Awarenesses happen only once instantaneously, while others propagate and sustain throughout my entire existence.
The first and possibly most challenging understanding an individual achieves is which of those Awarenesses they are going to designate Other, and which Awarenesses are going to be designated Self. After that, the individual needs to recognize patterns and consequences. The process of being able to post on a message board requires many layers of prerequisites.
With that out of the way, I can specify the very narrow part of Reality which Science deals with: invariant Other Awarenesses which sustain through space/time. So long as people recognize that this is the realm of Science, there are no problems. Very few people limit Science to simply this realm and try to either expand or shrink it.
Science is great when it comes to exploring the properties of the glass I am using. Colors, material composition, shape, temperature, etc. are handled by Science spectacularly. All of those are invariant Other Awarenesses which sustain through space/time. But when Science attempts to describe the internal qualia of tasting and drinking, which are instantaneous internal Self Awarenesses, Science utterly fails to launch.
Personally, I've got no problem with that because that is just how Reality operates. I didn't set up the rules, but I can figure them out, which I have to the best of my ability. But too many people look at the miraculous success of Science with the wonders of today and assume that Science can do EVERYTHING, so thereby extend Science beyond its proper domain with disasterous results. Worse, there is ANOTHER group of unreasonable people who toss Science as useless because it fails to address the Awarenesses they are concerned about, and no longer use Science where it IS so fabulously successful.
I end up looking at human society and seeing two equally unreasonable groups of people who are battling each other for the right to cut off MY nose to spite MY face. I rather like my nose and would prefer to keep it. I'm a bit resentful that these other people think they have any right to it.
