PB you mentioned "upgrading your attention". And Naveen, you mentioned a "one dimensional attention".
My immediate thought was about either the quantity or quality of attention. I assume you have heard of "the walking meditation"?
I heard of it years ago (90's?). It is what one does in a labyrinth: being aware AND intuitive about one's surroundings AND one's reactions and responses. It is simply the trek through the woods since it is not humanized by trails, etc. It goes way back into prehistory when hunting was foremost (especially on an empty stomach). Today it is a luxury to trek into woods, mountains and even deserts if you will. The practice doesn't have to be as severe as all of that. It is just tuning into one's surroundings on the streets, etc. A better pace of attention is the woods scenario, if you have one to venture through.
The mind MUST ATTEND to the woods, especially if your potential is to get lost. That is extreme but very effective to administer.
Having been a bus chaser in times past, I found that alertness was necessary to scope out potential dangers, which goes with the terrain. Streets are possibly dangerous, which I personally discovered at some junctures in my past.
As a young man, I walked a lot in the foreign towns I lived in (overseas). I was always "on guard" even when I was a boy. I also lived in Washington D.C. and took care to my surroundings while walking there at night from the Boy Scout meetings. The funny thing was that I failed miserably at the stalking test in the Boy Scouts. I was more accustomed to be suspiscious of possible followers rather than being the follower of someone. Oh well!!
