Scientists cannot prove or disprove anything; they can only compare things to chance. There are many many significant findings in all branches of science that cannot be explained. The existence of God is a possibility that could be enormously helpful to science theory building For example, some type of executive design fits so well with current genetics findings. Even without God, creator functions are part of science.
Spirituality in humans can be studied through phenomenal reports--sometimes with controlled studies. Sometimes findings are reported in such studies that cannot be explained by chance. Nonetheless, though encouraging to those who believe in God, they are seldom the foundations of Religious beliefs--just welcome confirmatory support.
IMO, Religious belief is based on a personal relationship with God--founded on direct personal experience.
