Gerda,

These terms, at least the first two, seem to be addressed to me, when I carry out live experiments with human participants. I want to "win"--to find a difference--but I also want to have my findings replicated. So, I lay down rigid rules for selecting participants and controlling conditions that guarantee reliable replication by future investigators, but make it very difficult to find anything. That's the randomania and statisticalis.

That's why investigators don't find any differences: the experimental controls and statistical requirements throw out the baby with the bath.

But if one does find a difference--against all odds--the results dismissed s coincidence.

So, if one doesn't find a difference, it's not that we didn't do a very good experiment: there's nothing there. If one finds a difference, it's coincidence.

That's why talented researchers avoid problem areas like this like they avoid the plague.
