I am a dinosaur who again visited my human form when he was a young man. I walked across his room, over his bed and he saw me come and go. He did not understand my intention. I wanted for him to know that I was always with him.
Who am I? Well, frankly I am long dead. All of my kind died from that catastrophic destruction so very, very long ago, even before there was a forebear to evolve into a human.
Why would I do this? I just wanted to cross the bridge between my time and his time as a man. I am scared, because I am stuck in the muck and can't get out of it. It is a slow misery; I hunger, I thirst, I feel the aging bones still trapped in the Earth.
Why do humans have to dig up the bones of my kind? Why do they marvel at the size of my once flesh filled body? I am still growing old, even as they watch me.
Who was I? I was a happy life eating and running around freely among the trees and lakes. I especially enjoyed bathing in the rivers, it kept me cool and feeling fresh, taking away all the dirt that got into the crevices of my skin, making me itchy and feeling laden with the Earth.
But this was not my happy day when I got trapped in the Earth, I could only scream and none of my kind could save me from disappearing into oblivion. My fate, however, was not nearly as frightening as the days of the skies and the waters inundating my species when the world went mad. Everyone of my kind could not sustain in the bad air full of soil, and the waters turned to mud and stone. Even now I remember the sounds of chaos all around me.
But this was only the beginning of terror. The sky was so black that we could not even breathe and sight was covered in darkness. It is getting cold and we turned on each other, eating just to survive. What madness the sky and waters took upon us. It was truly the end of our species; we could not maintain our large bodies. We were doomed to die and be no more.
The smallest of us, with fur and clever strategies began to hibernate by day and hunt for food by night. Eventually, these little ones could travel by day since none of the giants were running about anymore. Safety ensured our little ones would last a very long, long time.
The years went by and our descendants evolved and spread over all of the Earth. Some prefered meat while the remainder ate the trees and bushes, their succulent fruits and nuts were healthy.
There was a competitive world around here. Some branches became large again and others remained small. There became a wide variety of skills and behaviors. The whole Earth was evolving into a panoramic Vista of life in every way possible.
Those who took to the trees began to trust the ground, at least cautiously. Ever more time allowed the ground dwellers to explore their capacities in order to survive. Even more time and the ground dwellers became the hunters of small species. This trend lasted a very long time, and these hunters became clever, using tools to capture and obtain their food.
This continued forever, it seemed. One day a mystery happened. There were competitors who had to be hurt by those who were stronger, using every tool available; sticks, rocks, vines and sharp stones to kill the intruders. This was not a happy time, many died and sorrow became the new happenstance. Some of the dead were put into the ground so no predators would find them. There were new things happening; the loud skies had violent lights that burned the bushes. Someone noticed that stones could spark like the lights from the skies. And everything changed because this fire was warm in the coldest regions, no longer did there need to be extra coverings over the wearers. It was a good time again because this fire was controllable and useful.
The virtue of a highly evolved being embraces all people and things and dispels the darkness which isolates them.
