While I have long time now studied the Scriptures, I by NO MEANS know it all, nor do I claim to be some sort of Saint
I live still within a shell of flesh and blood. I am no less a sinner today (in the flesh) than I was the first time I was born (broke through the water into this epoch.

I surmise that with each passing day I die a little (become less attached to this world, to the things of flesh and blood). On my journey (through this world (this life) I've learned more of how little I genuinely know. I'm sixty now (soon sixty one, should I see the middle of July), and I am barely a toddler. Where once I ran like the wind, today I barely manage to walk. Ah, but such are the ways of this existence. Knowing so little, the best I do is attempt to follow where the Spirit leads. May the Spirit lead us now.

I didn't know the slightest thing about hell and eternal damnation at five years old, but...

1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

How many people do you know who get away with any sin or wrong who do not eventually give up the ghost? Who has ever broken the law that you know personally or even by hearsay who 'got away with it'?

While in the body (dwelling in this mortal coil of flesh and blood), I may have temporarily escaped the judgement of my peers, but the day has not yet arrived when I will stand before the one who judges us all by our works (our deeds/misdeeds). Only too well do I (and I only among my peers) know how I have broken the law and how often. Even before I believed in a higher power (whom I choose to call by name, my Father (my heavenly Father)), even prior to knowing my mom or dad were higher powers (at the time), I would have to say I knew (instinctively) whether I were doing something I should be doing as opposed to a things I had no business doing. I was never always in the right, but I was often in the wrong (yes, I admit, I have stuck something into a power outlet to learn what happens). :O

At five, I made my first real friend. His house sat caddy-cornered across from my own abode (in other words I had to cross two streets to get to his house on the opposite corner. I had been told to look both ways prior to attempting to cross any street, "Look left, look right, then look again to the left," so went the precept (the 'rule' or 'law') as I was taught it. One particular day (no one day in particular, just one of those daysI suppose) this day I decided it was high time to pay my new friend a friendly visit (around Kool-Aid time, I believe it was).

I received permission from the adult in charge of watching over me (at that particular time, it was a friend of my parents, named Jerry), so I proceeded on my way. I walked to the corner, looked left, then right, then left again and proceeded to cross the street. Halfway there now, one street left to go. It was a beautiful bright sunny summer day, as I recall now The sun was out, whether or not any particulate clouds may have been wafting about somewhere high overhead, I do not now recall. Perhaps I never paid particular mind to such fine details (I do feel confident I was in general an observant youth, but no more so than the average five year old boy that I was).

I looked to the left, to the right, back again to the left, and seeing nothing approaching from either direction, I proceeded to wrap my arms tightly around the stop sign at the corner and spun myself (fast and as hard as I could) around the sign (a couple of time at least) before proceeding into the street, crossing the second street to the house of my new friend. I did not quite make it there.

Though I had followed the direction (the precept, or law), a diversion had caused me not to follow it as precisely as I (in hindsight) should have. I would have to admit after being struck by the car (or was it 'my striking the car'? ...Oh, definitely the latter (praise G-D), otherwise I likely would not be sitting here typing this now), I may have been better off being admitted (to a medical facility) for examination. Not all thing occur as they perhaps should, but I somehow (many, many lessons later) survive still. Go figure.

The car I ran into was probably cruising along that residential street within normal limits (at between twenty five and thirty miles per hour (I apologize here, I'm not too bright with table conversions, besides being American, but I'll assume to those with whom it matters, you are likely more aware how fast that is in kilometers per hour)). I seem now to recall an initial 'THUD' as I struck the vehicles left rear quarter panel. That's about it, at least until I came to shortly thereafter, experiencing excruciating pain, in one of my legs as I remember it. That was over fifty five years ago; so, no, I do not recall which leg was hurting, but the way I get around now, causes me to deduce it was likely my right leg, but I digress...

I know not whether I was thrown from my body (out of body experience), but were it so, I returned quickly. Death had not won the victory, not yet. Had I followed the law precisely, the car may have struck me rather than the other way round. Perhaps one day that will be revealed to me in a dream (old men will dream dreams, the young men will have visions). I learned a lesson the hard way that day, follow the law precisely if I don't wish to become just one more traffic statistic. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could learn all of life's lessons all at once, while we're still here (in the body), rather than by recall at some remote point in the future, when we stand before the one who judges us by all our works?
