I have a question: "Do you think or contemplate all of your previous influences, and what, exactly do you promote as your "Holy Grail" philosophy to influence others"?
I do think of my previous influences and reflect on how they pop up so often. I sold some ETFs recently only to have them continue to go up in value. I am a long term investor who shakes himself our regularly. I have been handling it better since I retired but when I do this I remember all those ‘previous influences’ from the past as I have done it again!
My holy grail is the concept of the arbitrary. We are all arbitrary to some degree and being arbitrary can ties us in knots when that is reallly not good for us. The arbitrary is defined as our core beliefs which we simply assume are right but really arn’t. Many times, we should go with what we experience and the way those experiences show us. We can fool ourselves by thinking our memories or opinions show a better way.
